CET 2010 - GD experience

Aloha Folks,

As promised here is a CET candidate's GD experience. I have blanked out the personal details of the candidate. That is the only change that I have made to the email that I received.

Please let me have your reactions to this post in the comments section.

Type of candidate: Home University

CET Score & %ile: 150 (99.38%)

GD Date: 12th May 2010.

GD Venue: VPM Bedekar, Thane.

GD Duration: 10-15 mins

GD Participants: 11 Present (1 Absent). 4 participants were confident others were a bit shy.

GD Panel: 2 Guys (1 in early 30s d other in mid 50s I guess) & 1 lady (Mid 30s).

GD Topics:

1) Is a Coalition Government better than a single party government?

2) When work is pleasure, life is a joy.

Me & another guy selected the first topic. But others had Politicophobia, so d majority decided for the 2nd topic. I was disappointed cos Politics is my forte. Never mind, it’s a democracy.

GD Summary: I started the GD & gave a horrible intro, I spoke of Thomas Edison the Inventor of telephone. He once said, “I haven’t failed. I have just found 10,000 ways it doesn’t work”. A girl spoke after me emphasized on d importance of taking up a job we r interested in otherwise we won’t be able to perform to d best of our ability. Few others paraphrased the same point.

I came back, spoke of Abraham Maslows’ theory of Motivation. As expected, others had no idea who he was. So didn’t stretch my point further. Sum1 came up with Aamir Khan’s advise that he gave in 3 Idiots. Others spoke of money being an important factor but enjoying what u do at work is paramount. I tried to make another point, spoke for 10 seconds, got interrupted. Left it there. The discussion went on the same lines which had been discussed earlier.

One important point to note, the lady in the panel kept interrupting our GD when she felt that the weak speakers weren’t contributing. It wasn’t cos strong speakers were dominating but cos shy people weren’t really speaking even when there were moments of silence. The lady in d panel simply called their roll nos. n asked them to say sumthin. She did it at least four times. Ours was not a fish market. Overall a decent GD with poor content.

She then asked one of us to summarise. I didn’t want to be seen as greedy cos I gave the Intro. Hence, I didn’t summarise. One guy started summarizing, stopped in the middle. Another guy took over, he stopped in the middle too. Giving a chance to another guy to summarise. :-0

Hope this helps,

Ciao

Gautam
