GD Topic

Aloha Folks,

I am back. Once again. After a hiatus, this time, of more than a month. I think I will dispense with the usual “this time I am going to be regular with the posts” guff and get right down to business.

It is serious GD time for all you CET aspirants and the way to use Cafezika is use the comments section to put in points using the Idea Generation Techniques.

Please put in only ONE point per comment. I will drop in from time to time and give gyan on the kind of points made and also the points that could have been made.

The topic for the day is:

Mumbai the City of Dreams is turning into an Urban Nightmare

Looking forward to a vibrant discussion.

Ciao

  1. Mumbai exists but the vibrant, multicultural, rich, happy bombay is dead. Mumbai is no longer a dream city, with the incresing population and rising income gap no middle- class man would risk a degraded life in mumbai.

  2. Mumbai called as "city of dreams" is indeed being turned into "city of nightmares" with the growing progress and incidence of western culture the city is being robbed of its own vibrant values which used to stand apart from rest of cities. The increasing population which fuels the growth of slums which accelerates the low standard of living.Migration resulted into loads of illegal constructions. The growing crime rates ,the division being created among people based on cast, creed and culture are adding to the vows.
All tes factors are contributing to the degradation of the city to such levels...tat if not overlooked ten can rob the city of its goodness..and in near future it will surely be called as a "city of nightmare"

  3. Though mumbai suffers from the same evils that plague other major cities worldwide. mumbai as a whole has done a better job compare it to cities like delhi where the crime rate is very high....

  4. yes mumbai was and will always remain the city of dreams for many...but like any other metro city it also has to face some major problems which may include crime rate, increasing pollution,population,etc..but at he same time i think these problems not only exist in mumbai but any many other cities of the country...so it would be wrong if we term mumbai as an urban nightmare.

  5. I am completely agree with vinita. Definitely, Mumbai is on a roll of becoming a 'city of nightmares'. And its tag of 'city of dreams' is on verge of vanish. People residing out of Mumbai thinks that, this city has lot to offer for everyone and its true also. But how much burden will Mumbai carry. Each person comes with a lots of expectation and resides here till the end of his /her life. Increasing population certainly giving growth to the illegal residence, crimes etc. Now its hard to imagine that this city ever come back to its original state.

  6. When we compare Mumbai with other metropolitan city its definitely faring better than them...We are facing problems due to lack of leaders with vision..Even when our city was developing no proper town planning was done..roads and drainage system were never planned keeping in perspective the future..Still the city flourished because of the talent it nurtured..But also it has been exploited..Take for ex. Bollywood which represents so much of Mumbai have been witness to so many cases of models been exploited..Preeti jain and madhur bhandarkar case..People are in race to be successful career wise are losing tracks of their personal lives..This been the reason for increase in divorce rate in the city..A flourishing city also attracts its share of anti social elements..Also its success has been the reason for it been targeted by Terrorist group..Rising population of city had pressurized resources to the hilt..ex. city is facing water scarcity..The trains and buses continue to be over crowded..The city of dreams continues to be a city of dreams in the sense that it still attracts talent and nurtures entrepreneurs but is also developing into a nightmare coz of scarcity of resources and ill planning on part of government.

  7. Every developmental project has some associated boons and banes. At the time when some one benifits, someone has to loose out on some thing. So from such a project not every one can benefit.
Mumbai has been a dream project of many people. And thus the victim of it's own progress!
