  1. Well, though its a fact that Republic Day is reminder of d grandeur and splendour of the Indian military force, its relevance is reducing as years go by.
In the olden days, people used to take it as a matter of national pride and watch it live in whatever way they could.
But in the recent past, things have been different. We have been seeing a lot of empty seats during the parade. And the security concerns for the republic day has been causing hardships to the common man, especially Delhites. Roadblocks, diversions etc. affect the normal day to day works of the people. Moreover, people nowadays are so busy that they cant afford to sit at homes and watch the whole procession. So, ultimately it leaves only a few people in which most of them are present because of some political or social obligation.

  2. Well Republic day parade is very significant even today and will remain forever as long as India embraces democracy . Though some may argue it's just the show of military splendor. But it's in fact a lot than that.

we see lot of exclusivist chauvinist tendencies everyday , regional sentiment , people fightig for statehood and various other segregating clamour which is detrimental to the very idea of India's unity in diversity.

In fact I believe it's national relevance is increasing under current scenes and will increase. Unless and until we don't believe in celebration of constitution which gives us so much freedom to talk to speak or to even write an article like this one we are doomed state. That is why it's national holiday.
Well school children still like to get up in the morning and watch though it's like entertainment to them but they love it and somehow it leave a msg in their back of mind what this country is all about . So the msg that this day convey is very significant and there is no doubt about it's relevance.

If country like china which totally anti democracy celebrate it's people's day kinda thing than why not such a beautiful concept like democracy have a republic day parade.

well the thing my friend which he said above that there are empty seats it may be becoz of extreme cold in delhi :) and security concern.

well even if u think hypothetically that republic day parade is canceled for once the msg that will go across to terrorist that this state is so vulnerable and they will start intimidating at higher levels so u see that's infact a invitation to menace.

And roadblock and discomfort is a daily phenomenon whether it's republic day or hillary clinton visit. Road block is not solely becoz of republic day it's generic phenomenon worldwide.
we have road block everyday in peak hours there is no escape to that u see.
And people may be busy but not ignorant that it's one important day for every Indian .

  3. I think the republic day parade is a meaningless attempt to showcase our military might and our secular credentials.China celebrating the event doesn't hold any significance because it is known to use every opportunity to orchestrate the happy state of its people amidst allegations of violation of human rights. We being a mature democracy don't need such sort of an orchestrated event to prove anything to anyone. Also I agree that the only thing the parade contributes is to traffic and security concerns.

  4. Well, I agree to the fact it is a reminder to everybody, but then in the present age, people seem to take the whole thing for granted.. The enthusiasm which was there in the olden days doesnt exist anymore. Empty chairs can be seen in the parade. I am knowing saying that the parade has to be taken off. But, some plan has to be thought off which makes people more interested and the republic day parade serves the purpose it is intended for.
One such solution would be the presence of popular personalities like filmstars and cricketers. Though, morally it may not sound apt, people show more interest when a person they adore is present.

  5. Actually the Repubic day parade shows the power of country. It shows the muscles of India through Arms, missiles, and through different & excel defense system.
But now at this age, do we really have guts to use these defensive system to maintain our dignity.if yes then parade has significance else its waste of time.
Only 5 terrorist enter in India through sea way, put mumbai on fire, and it takes 3 days to resolve the problem, so where these hifi system is? its not the single case, we have a plenty of example like akshardham, parliament attack, where we failed to take quick action and failed to maintain our gravitas.
So no Indian today want to see these equipment only in parade, in fact they want a sound way of its use. Then there would have proud on parade and people would have interest else it is irrelevant.

  6. I feel sympathetic to the notion of inviting the silver screen celebrities or cricket stars as guests during such important national events. Many of us have misunderstood the meaning of national holidays. Come 'on, this is not a filmfare award nite. The Republic Day is a national holiday of India to mark the adoption of the Constitution of India and the transition of our country from a colonial dominion to a republic.
Why do we do a video recording or a photo capture of marriages or our personal events. Its for us to cherish those moments through those captures. Then don't we cherish the anniversary of our nation getting mature. I'd say it is because of the lack of these kind of nationalistic sentiments that the regional conflicts arise for meaningless things like bifurcation etc.
Where do we rush so much? Lets relax on this Day atleast. Its a national holiday afterall. Give some moments to think about our country, its sturcture, its belongings. If you get into a traffic diversion on such a day, feel proud that you are commemorating the birth of the world's largest democracy, in which you are ofcourse a part of, the reason for you being able to speak, express and follow your own ways.
Lets give our younger generation atleast a glimpse of what our nation is really made of and how it is made, and ofcourse, how much powerful it is. Some people may find these kind of celebrations uncomforatble, but understand, there are crores watching this event on television, may be outside the capital. The people who feel proud to be called an Indian, do exist.

  8. Re public day hold its very own special place in every Indians heart, nor can u measure it with the number of audience that turned up for the parade nor can we measure it with current situation of the country!

The main reason to celebrate Re public day was Jan 26 1950, the constitution of India was transferred from the British domain to India...Isn't that a big enough reason to celebrate or to signify this day ?

If we all can celebrate valentines day and Friendships day with so much of enthusiasm ; then why not Re-public day.

yes this day is loosing its charm, may be because nothing constructive is done on this day (2010 exception as Mono rail was started @Mumbai,INDIA)

so there is a hope only if we look at the brighter side and by not tagging this day as IRRELEVANT !

    Happy Re-Public Day to all
    Jai Hind !

  9. well this is not totally true people still go to parades even i watched the parade in the morning today, maybe people were not there for parade today because of fog and cold.
I even think that everybody in India should watch parades as we come to know about our defense systems and most important we come to know about the names of our missiles, the y are really important in the case of banking exams hehe
so there is irrelevant about parades

  10. 'Freedom from fear ,is the freedom I crave for you my motherland' said Rabindranath Tagore in his poem 'Freedom'.
Republic day parades for the past 6decades has been that credible stage( for India or for any other country for that matter) where the union let know its citizen of its strength, its variety and lot more.
This show of splendour may look bleak to Indians 60+ years down the lane, for we have now taken freedom and democracy for granted.
But still there are instances developing in every part of the country, where our integrity and strength gets questioned, which may arise fear in its citizen.
To get rid of this fear factor and to reinstate confidence in every Indian of its ability to stand united,Republic day parades do play a major role.
And I strongly believe there are Indians in Kashmir and Arunachal who derive hope from them to be free of fear.

  11. Republic day not only marks the day our constituion was adopted by the country, it also marks the beginning of true independence of our country.
Republic day parade is not just a pompous show of our power its also an indication to the world-'Don't mess with us'.
On this day medals are given to all those who showed their courage & bravery on field & many of whom laid their lives for the country. Its a day to honour them.So how can the parade be meaningless.
For the first time we see people who sacrifice their lives for us on screen.so how can it be irrevalent. These people are the real heroes and they don't require any filmstar or sportsperson to draw crowd.
They are the ones bcoz of whom we can keep a hand on our heart and say 'ALL IS WELL'.

So Republic Day is definitely never going to lose its significance.
Also we see states putting their best shows in parade some of them being really good & noteworthy. For eg. this time they showed the irrigation system of Manipur using bamboos-high quantity of water,no leakage, sustainable development-isn't that amazing.

so lots to learn from Republic day parade and it is definitely not losing its importance.People from other countries come to watch it.so where is it going boss.
