Hi Guys,
Here are the answers for the Trivia Quiz that I posted last week. Surprisingly only ONE correct entry. Or probably not so surprising because a lot of you got the first question wrong. I am sure you will be surprised by the answer. ;-)
1. S.S.Vasan's Chandralekha (1948) was the first film that was an "all-India hit". Who was the female playback singer in that film?
Ans. Tun Tun a.k.a. Uma Devi. All of us know Uma Devi as Tun Tun but very few of us know that she was part of the Hindi Film industry much before her avatar as a comedienne.
Uma Devi made an impressive debut with 'Afsana Likh Rahi Hoon' from Dard which became a runaway hit. Her singing career took off with that song. After Dard, she became one of Naushad's favourite songstress. When she was at a low ebb in her singing career it was Naushad who, knowing her gift of comic timing, suggested she take up acting. Her acting debut was in Babul in which she was cast alongside Dilip Kumar and Nargis.
2. What is "mad money"?
Ans. A small sum of money carried by a woman on a date to enable her to reach home alone in case she and her escort quarrel and separate. Amazing the kind of words that exist in English. I wonder what the term is to describe the disappointed man.
3. What did/does the term "Jesus Wept" mean in tennis?
Ans. Jesus Wept is the shortest verse in the Bible. This was used to depict the short short skirts that women players tended to wear in the 80s and 90s. Though I am sure none of the spectators at least were weeping. ;-)
4. We sometimes use the term "All hell broke loose". Who used it for the very first time?
Ans. John Milton
5. What was the name of Alexander's horse
Ans. Bucephalus
The WINNER is:
Alok kumar. Good show Alok.
