Hi Friends,


The root words matr/mater/matri” mean Mother. Some words that originate from these root words are:


alma mater:

The school, college, or university that one once attended.


dura mater:

The tough outermost membrane enveloping the brain and spinal cord.


matriarch:

A woman who is the head of a family or tribe or a powerful older woman.


materfamilias:The mother of a family


matriclinous:

Having predominantly maternal hereditary traits.


matrilateral:

Related through the mother, as to a maternal uncle.


matrilineal:

Inheriting or determining descent through the female line.


matrilocal:

Of or pertaining to residence with the wife's family or tribe.


matripotestal:

Of or pertaining to the authority exercised by a mother or a mother's blood relatives.


matrocliny:

Inheritance in which the traits of the offspring are derived primarily from the maternal parent
