CET 2010 - Personal Interview Experience

Hi Folks,

Here is a candidate’s PI experience at the ongoing CET GD/PI sessions. I have resisted the urge to edit the same and have left the narrative just as he has sent across. Let me have your feedback and your own experience in the comments section.

PI: 2 Panelists (Male in mid 40s n lady in mid 30s). I don’t remember who asked wht, m writing all questions.

Profiling Sheet: One which has the question “Whom wud u save in case a fire broke out at ur house?”

They didn’t ask me the million dollar question, “Describe Yourself”!

1) Started questioning on my Work Ex (Explained, Sum wht convinced)

2) Asked sum stuff bout my graduation (I’ve done BMS). (Explained, Convinced)

3) “U selected Marketing as ur specialization in Graduation, now u want to go for Finance?” (Explained, screwed it and probably marked down!)

4) Tell us sumthin bout ur dad’s biz. Y don’t u join him? (Explained, convinced)

5) What is Branding? (Explained, more explanation, a lil more, they seemed convinced)

6) What do you think of Rahul Gandhi? (Explained, convinced)

7) Why doesn’t Congress win in Uttar Pradesh despite of such terrific work done by Rahul Gandhi? (Explained, convinced)

8) Can Congress form a government in Uttar Pradesh competing against Mayawati n Mulayam Singh Yadav? (Explained, more than convinced) (Guys don’t worry, I told them I follow politics closely, so they asked these questions).

9) Are you an active member of any political party? (Explained, convinced)

10) What’s happening in the world of chess? (Vishy won the world title fourth time) (Answered, said Anand Mahindra instead of Vishwanathan Anand, corrected myself immediately!)

11) Who did Vishy beat to win the title? (Didn’t know d answer, told them)

12) Which English News Channels do u watch? (Answered, convinced)

13) Which section of Economic Times do you like the most? (Answered, convinced).

14) Sought explanation bout my biggest failure (Explained, not convinced)

… That’s about it. I hope I haven’t missed any question.

CET 2010 - GD experience

Aloha Folks,

As promised here is a CET candidate's GD experience. I have blanked out the personal details of the candidate. That is the only change that I have made to the email that I received.

Please let me have your reactions to this post in the comments section.

Type of candidate: Home University

CET Score & %ile: 150 (99.38%)

GD Date: 12th May 2010.

GD Venue: VPM Bedekar, Thane.

GD Duration: 10-15 mins

GD Participants: 11 Present (1 Absent). 4 participants were confident others were a bit shy.

GD Panel: 2 Guys (1 in early 30s d other in mid 50s I guess) & 1 lady (Mid 30s).

GD Topics:

1) Is a Coalition Government better than a single party government?

2) When work is pleasure, life is a joy.

Me & another guy selected the first topic. But others had Politicophobia, so d majority decided for the 2nd topic. I was disappointed cos Politics is my forte. Never mind, it’s a democracy.

GD Summary: I started the GD & gave a horrible intro, I spoke of Thomas Edison the Inventor of telephone. He once said, “I haven’t failed. I have just found 10,000 ways it doesn’t work”. A girl spoke after me emphasized on d importance of taking up a job we r interested in otherwise we won’t be able to perform to d best of our ability. Few others paraphrased the same point.

I came back, spoke of Abraham Maslows’ theory of Motivation. As expected, others had no idea who he was. So didn’t stretch my point further. Sum1 came up with Aamir Khan’s advise that he gave in 3 Idiots. Others spoke of money being an important factor but enjoying what u do at work is paramount. I tried to make another point, spoke for 10 seconds, got interrupted. Left it there. The discussion went on the same lines which had been discussed earlier.

One important point to note, the lady in the panel kept interrupting our GD when she felt that the weak speakers weren’t contributing. It wasn’t cos strong speakers were dominating but cos shy people weren’t really speaking even when there were moments of silence. The lady in d panel simply called their roll nos. n asked them to say sumthin. She did it at least four times. Ours was not a fish market. Overall a decent GD with poor content.

She then asked one of us to summarise. I didn’t want to be seen as greedy cos I gave the Intro. Hence, I didn’t summarise. One guy started summarizing, stopped in the middle. Another guy took over, he stopped in the middle too. Giving a chance to another guy to summarise. :-0

Hope this helps,

GD Topic

Aloha Folks,

I am back. Once again. After a hiatus, this time, of more than a month. I think I will dispense with the usual “this time I am going to be regular with the posts” guff and get right down to business.

It is serious GD time for all you CET aspirants and the way to use Cafezika is use the comments section to put in points using the Idea Generation Techniques.

Please put in only ONE point per comment. I will drop in from time to time and give gyan on the kind of points made and also the points that could have been made.

The topic for the day is:

Mumbai the City of Dreams is turning into an Urban Nightmare

Looking forward to a vibrant discussion.
